Be Perfect!

The Godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked. Proverbs 24:16

We all make mistakes. It’s a known fact, no-one is always right. No-one is without sin, but yet the bible says, “be ye therefore perfect, even as your father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). How can this be, when Romans 8:23 says we all have sinned and we fall short of the glory of God.  How then is it fair for God to ask for perfection?

I never really understood this concept fully until I started to understand more about God. Many times as Christians we are all about setting the moral bar high and how many brownie points you’ve got. I always thought that I must be good for God to love me. If I needed something done in my life I would try to be good for a couple days and then start to pray for the things I needed.

Now that I am understanding who God is I’ve realised that all I have to do is confess my sins and He will help me with the rest. Even when I make mistakes or neglect God I don’t need to butter Him up first before asking for help.  He is ready and waiting to satisfy my every need. When I come to Him and ask Him into my heart I am perfect in His eyes and he will continue to do a good work in me as long as I let Him. I will leave you with the words of a beautiful song by Ralph Carmichael,  “The Saviour is Waiting”,

The Savior is waiting to enter your heart

Why don’t you let Him come in?

There’s nothing in this world to keep you apart
What is your answer to Him?

Time after time
 He has waited before

And now He is waiting again

To see if you are willing
  to open the door

Oh, how He wants to come in.

If you’ll take one step
toward the Saviour my friend,

You’ll find His arms open wide.

Receive Him, and all of your darkness will end

Within your heart He’ll abide.
