I got to thinking over the day about listing the positive and negative things about me, and believe me there were so many negatives. This made me contemplate on the passage in Romans 3:23 which states that ‘ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God’ and Isaiah 64:6, ‘all our righteous acts are as filthy rags’ in the sight of God. These texts seemed sort of depressing at a first glance because, when read by themselves they could make someone feel that though no matter what, nothing that is done will ever be good enough for God. But thankfully in Isaiah 1:18 God promises that even though my sins may be ‘red as scarlet they shall be as white as snow’.
If I confess to God I am not condemned because through Jesus I can be saved according to John 3:16. I need to firstly, have faith or believe in Jesus Christ as my personal saviour and redeemer (Acts 16:31) and know that the only way to be saved is through Him. It is God’s grace that saves me not my own greatness or capabilities and because of this when I accept Christ. I can rest assured that I am a ‘new creature’ (read 2 Corinthians 5:17).
All the negatives on my list can be gotten rid of even instantaneously if I place my life in God’s hands he can make all things new. Now that I look at my character spec, it’s not such a monstrous task to begin to get rid of all those negatives!
